JUVENILE DRUG COURT

Clallam County Juvenile Drug Court began in July 1997. The program places non-violent, drug-abusing juveniles into an intensive court supervised drug-treatment program instead of jail. If the youth fails to complete the treatment program, then prosecution and sentencing proceeds as usual.

Participants are subject to frequent urinalysis testing, counseling, education, vocational assistance, and court appearances. As with adult drug courts, the incentive to stick with the program is the possibility that the charges will be dismissed if the youth successfully completes the program for one year.

Parents of teen drug offenders also have to be accountable. Parents are asked to help their child get to 12-step meetings and court appearances. Fines can be levied for noncompliant parents.

For teens who need more support ParentLine has mentors available to help kids get to meetings and someone to talk to when they need it.

Participant Eligibility:

  • Children up to age 18 with a substance abuse problem

Ineligible offenses:

  • Violent crimes
  • Sexual offenses

Graduation requirements:

  • Successful completion of all treatment requirements
