In May 2000 the Council issued a report and recommendations for
collaborative policy actions to prevent the spread of Meth related
problems, treat persons addicted to Meth, clean up contaminated lab sites,
and enhance efforts to investigate and prosecute Meth-related crimes.
Another critical issue identified was the need to have cross-system
protocols to more effectively help families and children who are the
victims of Meth abuse and related crimes.
This report was the basis for a Meth initiative by
the Governor's Office, which continues to develop cross-system strategies
for controlling the Meth epidemic in Washington State.
During 2002 the Governor's Council on Substance Abuse
will review policy action since 2000 to report on the progress made and
identify what action is still needed to control Meth impacts.
