The deconfliction system has proven its value in promoting officer safety through a simple telephone call. Drug investigators only need to call in their critical events before deploying to the field. A critical event is any investigative activity such as a drug buy, surveillance, sting, drug raid, knock and talk, etc. Some agencies have modified their investigative or raid PLAN and placed Watch Center notification as the first item required in the planning process.

We have had recent examples of two different agencies investigating the same subject. Through the deconfliction system they were able to better coordinate efforts. In another instance, a hazard notation was attached to a violator entered by a California agency. This information was considered to be of extreme importance in the Washington investigation.

Drug enforcement officers are finding that the research team in the Watch Center is able to provide valuable intelligence information saving them time and considerable effort. Investigators are also finding that in nearly one out of every four names that they check through the WSIN system, someone has already placed an entry in the intelligence files. This is supported by the 23% hit rate. This system has already proven its worth and will only get better over time.
