The case started as a small purchase of methamphetamine from a drug dealer who obtained the drug from another drug dealer. Follow up investigation resulted in additional seizures. The secondary dealer was released on bail before the large seizure and is at large.

  • On August 4, LEAD Task Force and DEA interdicted a Fronteras Del Norte Bus in Toppenish. Five kilograms of cocaine were seized, but no suspects were taken into custody. LEAD and WSP seized a kilogram of cocaine from three suspects en route to Seattle in another interdiction on September 9.

The Northern Border and Money Laundering Task Forces are investigating organizations involved from separate incidents.

  • The Northern Border Task Force apprehended a 67 year old suspect involved in the transport of cash from Vancouver, BC, to Portland and Los Angeles and the return flow of cocaine to Canada. 15 kilos of cocaine have been seized to date. A marijuana grow operation with 2000 plants and yielding 8 million dollars a year to supplement the purchase of cocaine was also seized. Follow up investigation disclosed since 1997 the suspect had smuggled more than 25 cocaine loads all between 10 and 25 kilos from the U.S. to Canada.
