In the last week of January, NW HIDTA
completed its transition from its office in Tukwila to the new office in Seattle. It is a
first class facility with more space then we had previously. We have already hosted a
number of training sessions and meetings at the new site. There is parking available in
the underground garage for visitors however entry to the building must be done through the
main entrance on 2nd Avenue. The address is 400 2nd Avenue West, 3rd floor, Seattle, WA
98119, telephone number 206 352 3600. Also at the end of January the award documents were sent to all grant recipients for their year 2000 grants. A reminder for those agencies that have extensions of their year 1999 grants that they will expire on July 1, 2000. We have just about completed the review process for the Annual Report and the Threat Assessment. These reports are due to ONDCP by April 15. We have also begun the process for submission and review of the year 2001 Initiatives. We have asked that all new Initiatives, and those seeking to be continued, be submitted by April 24th to our office for review by the advisory committees prior to formal presentation to the Executive Committee. It is with regret that I announce that the Chair of the Executive Committee, John Turner, Chief of Police of Mountlake Terrace recently retired. Chief Turner was one of the founding fathers of the NW HIDTA and was instrumental in developing the program to its current level. His law enforcement career began in 1971 and he has been Police Chief since 1989. Thanks for everything Chief and good luck to you in your new position with WRICOPS. Charlie Mandigo, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI is the new Chair of the Executive Committee and Norma Jaeger, King County Department of Community and Human Services, is the Vice Chair.
