In April of this year, an entirely new content area was added to the Mfiles, featuring a sub-site devoted to methamphetamine awareness, a new focus to the education effort. A visitor can now access comprehensive information on both marijuana and methamphetamine; each drug has its own current news stories, factual information and links to related web sites. This month the Mfiles features a story about the new Snohomish County Juvenile Drug Court, and will include a digital version of this newsletter. Additional features include: Training Schedules: The Mfiles currently includes an updated calendar for the training provided by HIDTA and the Methamphetamine Safety Education presentations provided by Project SAFE. Two of the six counties (Yakima and Lewis) that have also implemented the Project SAFE presentations also have their schedules online. Meth Labs and dump sites: A running total of the methamphetamine labs and the lab dump sites to which the Department of Ecology has responded, listed by county for the year-to-date, is now available online (the statewide total trough September 2000 is 1,050). E-mails in November: In November, an e-mail service will be implemented for prevention, treatment and law enforcement professionals announcing the latest hits on the Mfiles. The e-mail content will be include links on current topics of interest: November will feature local election results, the outcome of Proposition 36 in California, and the status of the sweeping initiative in Alaska to legalize the possession of marijuana. Also of note, in November: a feature on Project SAFEs Methamphetamine Safety Education curriculum and a focus on one of the successful Drug Court programs in Washington State.
