As part of the funding process for year 2002 we have reviewed the passback question and responded, with your assistance, to ONDCP. Hopefully, we will have a budget passed in a timely manner with funds made available at the beginning of the year. We have also finished our monograph for year 2001( a condensed version of the threat assessment, strategy and Initiatives) which I will be sending out to the participating agencies. We have also been working on the expansion of the HIDTA program to seven more counties in the State. This is contingent on receiving supplemental funds from ONDCP. We know our congressional representatives are working to include additional funds in the HIDTA appropriations.

We wish to recognize the outstanding work done by Sheriff Dave Reichert and his staff in organizing The Washington State Meth Summit. This is still a work in progress but the collaboration and information sharing that went on has placed us in a position of understanding the enormity of the problem and organizing to confront it more efficiently. The Northwest HIDTA, with the assistance of a great number of other people, produced a video for this conference that is available for distribution. I also with to recognize the excellent briefings done by the various Task Force Commanders at the last two Law Enforcement meetings. These briefings were thorough, informative and gave a real sense of their operational tempo as they pursue their targets.
