During CY 2001 narcotics officers used the watch center more for critical events notifications and for inquiries than in the previous year. For 2001, there was an increase of 87 calls over CY 2000 (1441 vs. 1357). Forty-one percent (41%) of the Critical Event calls were related to cocaine activities. Second most common were meth-related operations (27.3%), followed by marijuana at 14.5%, heroin at 12.5%, Ecstasy at 5.27%. Likewise, inquiries for data on persons, addresses, and other investigative information increased by 456 from 2068 in CY2000 to 2824 in CY2001. These inquiries were in addition to those requested for direct case support and to assist other government agencies and operations. Meth hot line calls declined by one call from 2000 to 111 calls.

The annual Threat Assessment survey was sent to all 39 county sheriffs' offices in addition to selected NWHIDTA Task Forces. Of these, responses were received from 22 counties including the counties along the I-5 corridor. This data defines the understanding of the overall drug problem facing Washington State and will be included in the information Threat Assessment for CY2001.
